Mayor - Gerry Taft
Gerry is proud to have been born and raised in Invermere.
Gerry has been active in small business since selling Lego in grade 3, operating a hot dog cart at age 17, starting 'Gerry's Gelati' in 2004, as well as a number of other real estate and business investments. In January 2017 Gerry sold 'Gerry's Gelati' and 'Stolen Church Coffee Co.' to dedicate full time efforts to politics.
From class council in grade 5 to British Columbia Youth Parliament and student governments through high school and college, Gerry has always been politically active.
Gerry has a Diploma in Resort and Hotel Management, University College of the Cariboo (now Thompson Rivers University) 2002.
Gerry was first elected to District of Invermere council in 2002, at the age of 20.
Gerry was elected as Mayor of the District of Invermere and began serving on the board of the Regional District of East Kootenay in 2008. Having been successfully re-elected in 2011, and 2014, Gerry holds these positions currently.
Gerry has been active in local government associations, serving as a Director and eventually Vice President of the Association of Kootenay Boundary Local Governments from 2011 until 2016, and serving as a Director at Large for the Union of British Columbia in 2015 and 2016.
In the fall of 2016 Gerry was choose by the local membership to be the BC NDP to be the candidate in the riding of Columbia River Revelstoke.
Gerry resides in Invermere with his partner Nozomi, their young son Kevlin (born January 2015), and their lazy dog Piper (date of birth unknown).
