Home Owner Grant
The
Provincial
Home Owner Grant program helps reduce the amount of residential property tax
homeowners pay. The grant is available to Canadian citizens or landed immigrants
who live in British Columbia. How to Claim Your Home Owner Grant To
claim your Home Owner Grant online log onto our Virtual
City Hall. You will need to know your Roll Number and your Access Code; both
are located on the top right hand corner of your Property Tax Notice. OR
You
must complete the grant application attached to your Property Tax Notice. If you
qualify for the additional grant and wish to obtain it, you must tick the box
that describes your qualification. If over 65, state your birth date.
Important:
To avoid penalty, owners must apply for the Home Owners Grant with the District
of Invermere prior to July 2, 2010, even if you are not paying taxes that are
due at that time, or your financial institution pays the taxes on your behalf.
Unable to Apply?
If an applicant is unable to apply, the application
may be made by the applicant's committee or a person appointed in writing as the
applicant's attorney. A Power
of Attorney Form(C)
must be attached and sent in with the Home Owner Grant Application. Claiming
the Additional Grant due to a Disability
If you receive
a disability allowance under the Employment and Assistance For Persons with Disabilities
Act you must attach a Consent
for Release of Information Form ,
signed by you and your Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance representative,
to the grant application. OR If you
are permanently disabled or you have a disabled spouse or relative residing with
you permanently, a signed Medical
Certificate Form(B)
must be completed by your physician and attached to the grant application, along
with photocopies of receipts supporting the costs incurred.
Claiming
the Low-Income Grant Supplement
The Low-Income Grant Supplement is a
grant provided to eligible low-income individuals with homes assessed above $1,050,000.To

you are eligible you will need to complete the Application
for Home Owner Grant Low Income Supplement Program (FIN65) .
Forgot
to Claim Last Year's Grant
The
deadline is December 31 of the current year. However, after the deadline, you
have a year to apply for an extension to claim a retroactive home owner grant.
You must provide a written explanation for missing the deadline, and a completed
and signed Retroactive
Home Owner Grant Application
must accompany your letter.
