About Invermere

Location
Invermere is located in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia. Resting on the North shore of Lake Windermere, which is a widening near the headwaters of the mighty Columbia River.

Invermere is the hub community for the Columbia Valley between Cranbook and Golden, nestled between the Purcell and Rocky Mountain Ranges.

A picturesque community, Invermere is close to Kootenay National Park and only
1-1/2 hours from Banff National Park and 3 hours from Calgary, Alberta.

Population and Demographics
BC Stats estimates 2006 permanent population at 3,002. The Columbia Valley however has a large "shadow" population that explodes to between 20,000 to 30,000 in the summer months..

Public Schools
Invermere is serviced by the Rocky Mountain School District and providing K to 12 education throughout the Columbia Valley. The Rocky Mountain School District's main offices are in Invermere.

Post Secondary - College
The College of the Rockies also has a campus in Invermere offering university credit, vocational and continuing education opportunities.
